The New Zealand Society of Notaries describes a Notary Public as “a lawyer authorised by the Archbishop of Canterbury in England to officially witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, administer oaths and certify the authenticity of legal documents usually for use overseas.”
We can assist you with the following:
The taking of affidavits and declarations for use overseas;
Certify as to the authenticity of documents for use overseas;
Certify that a copy of a document which you don’t want to send overseas, is a true copy of an original produced, for example a passport or driver licence.
A minimum fee of $140.00 plus GST is payable per document requiring a notarial act. The hourly rate is $450.00 plus GST plus disbursements (if applicable).
Please make an appointment if you require the services of a Notary and bring the originals of any documents that need to be certified or witnessed to the meeting. The Notary Public must positively identify the person signing and you should produce documents that identify you, such as your passport, citizenship certificate, driver licence, firearm licence, and any other document bearing your photograph that may prove your identity.
Please make sure that all documents are fully completed – (no changes or additions can be made to the document after it has been signed by the Notary).
Some countries require that that you get your document apostilled or authenticated. An apostille or authentication is an official government certificate which proves that the signature, stamp, or seal on a document is genuine. For more information visit this NZ Government web page.
